Gender Equality Consultant for ASWA WASH Programme

About the role

The Gender Equality Consultant will support UNICEF’s Accelerating Sanitation and Water for All (ASWA) programme by providing technical, facilitation and knowledge‑management expertise. The role focuses on integrating gender‑intentional approaches into WASH programmes across eight African countries.

Key responsibilities

• Generate thought‑leadership, evidence and knowledge products on gender‑equitable WASH.
• Advocate for gender‑responsive policies and practices with country teams, governments and partners.
• Provide capacity‑building, technical assistance and facilitation to country offices implementing gender‑focused WASH interventions.
• Consolidate, disseminate and promote findings from WASH Gender Landscape Analyses and Action Plans.
• Support the development of advocacy materials and influence stakeholders to adopt gender‑intentional WASH strategies.

Required profile

• Proven experience in gender‑focused development work, preferably within the WASH sector.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops, manage knowledge‑sharing platforms and produce evidence‑based outputs.
• Strong understanding of gender dynamics related to water, sanitation and hygiene, including climate‑change impacts.
• Experience working with international organisations or UN agencies is an advantage.
