General Accountant (M/F)

About the role

AGL (Africa Global Logistics), a multimodal logistics operator (port, logistics, maritime and rail) in Africa and part of the MSC Group, is hiring a General Accountant in Nairobi. The position is permanent and full-time, and involves maintaining accurate books of accounts, month-end reporting, tax compliance and general ledger management.

Key responsibilities

• Post general journal entries correctly, review accruals, provisions and prepayments monthly, prepare supporting schedules and conduct a full trial balance review
• Ensure journals are approved before booking and match general ledgers
• Prepare accrual and prepayment reports, support the Financial Controller on reporting (including Net Working Capital and forex impact), and provide schedules for month-end, budget, tax and internal/external audits
• Follow up on rejected supplier invoices on iTax, reconcile VAT accounts, file VAT and withholding tax on time, and prepare payroll byproducts such as NSSF, NHIF, AHL and NITA
• Approve disbursements with full supporting documents, confirm cost recovery, raise disputes with operations and code general expenses correctly in SAP
• Provide reports on cyclical and year-end stock counts and support inventory reconciliation and variance analysis
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, resolve reconciling items and liaise with Treasury on outstanding items
• Other duties assigned by the Financial Controller or Senior Management

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in commerce or a finance/accounting-related course
• CPA (K), ACCA, CFA or equivalent qualification
• Minimum 2 years in a similar role
