General Manager – Legal Services & Corporation Secretary

About the role

The General Manager – Legal Services & Corporation Secretary leads Kenya Railways' legal affairs and corporate governance, ensuring compliance with laws and safeguarding corporate interests.

Key responsibilities

• Spearhead formulation, implementation and review of legal strategies, guidelines and relevant legislation.
• Oversee corporate governance implementation and adherence to national policies.
• Lead legal advisory services, negotiations on railway concessioning and contractual agreements.
• Provide strategic leadership for litigation, dispute resolution and risk management.
• Develop and monitor annual work plans, budgets, procurement and asset disposal plans.
• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the Legal Services Department, including Board agenda preparation and external lawyer appointments.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant field and LL.B from a reputable institution.
• Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Member of the Law Society of Kenya, Certified Public Secretary.
• At least 15 years of relevant experience, with 5 years in senior management within a state corporation or comparable organization.
