Global Media Officer

About the role

The Global Media Officer will lead Plan International’s worldwide media monitoring, reporting and outreach efforts. Working closely with programme teams and senior leadership, the role ensures the organisation’s humanitarian and development work receives high‑quality coverage across global media outlets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead global media monitoring and reporting, producing horizon‑scanning and quarterly media hits reports.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists at influential international outlets to secure high‑quality coverage.
• Develop, implement and evaluate media and communication strategies that raise the profile of Plan International’s humanitarian, development and advocacy programmes.
• Identify news‑agenda opportunities, draft spokesperson quotes, press releases and social‑media posts quickly, and coordinate approvals.
• Respond promptly to journalist enquiries, liaising with technical experts and regional offices to provide accurate information.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a fast‑paced news, media or PR environment.
• Excellent written and verbal English, capable of producing punchy copy for diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to pitch stories, secure coverage and manage media relationships.
• Strong understanding of humanitarian, development and rights‑based issues, and of ethical storytelling principles.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and support colleagues under pressure.
