Grants Manager for Border Security Programme

About the role

The Grants Manager will lead the financial and compliance oversight of sub‑grants for the UK‑funded East Africa Border Security Programme, working closely with programme leads, consortium partners and Mercy Corps finance teams across Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain an efficient grants management system and matrix for all programme sub‑grants.
• Oversee sub‑grant agreements, financial reporting, and ensure expenditures comply with FCDO regulations and programme budgets.
• Process sub‑grant payments, transfers and transactions, and coordinate pre‑award and post‑award activities.
• Conduct partner due‑diligence assessments, monitor capacity‑building plans and provide ongoing support.
• Identify, monitor and mitigate financial, compliance and operational risks.
• Supervise the Sub Grants team and ensure performance management processes are applied.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Professional accounting certification (CPA(K)).
• At least 10 years of experience managing grants, sub‑contracts and donor compliance.
• Strong accounting knowledge including general ledger, journal entries, payables and balance‑sheet management.
