HAZMAT / HAZWASTE Handler / Shipper

About the role

Amentum is seeking a qualified HAZMAT / HAZWASTE Handler / Shipper to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The incumbent will ensure safe, compliant collection, packaging, transport, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, package, transport, and ship hazardous materials (HM), hazardous waste (HW), and excess HM in line with Diego Garcia Final Governing Standards (DGFGS) and contract requirements.
• Manage the Hazardous Waste Storage Area (HWSA), Satellite Hazardous Waste Accumulation Points (SHWAPs), and the Hazardous Material Minimization (HAZMIN) Reissue Center.
• Conduct inspections of hazardous materials and waste to verify compliance with storage, handling, packaging, and disposal safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of waste generation, shipment, and disposal activities.
• Provide training and guidance to team members on proper handling, packaging, and disposal procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum one year of experience handling hazardous materials or completion of a recognized HAZMAT/HAZWASTE handling course.
• Current certifications from the Naval School of Physical Distribution Management or the School of Military Packaging Technology, with biennial refresher training.
• Ability to work safely with required personal protective equipment (PPE) and to follow occupational safety and health standards.
