Head, Chemicals Science and Policy Unit (P5)

About the role

The United Nations is recruiting a Head of the Chemicals Science and Policy Unit (P5) based in Nairobi, Westlands. The post leads a unit focused on chemicals science and policy, and requires extensive experience in scientific information on environmental issues, policy advocacy and team leadership.

Required profile

• A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible and demonstrable experience generating and managing scientific information on environmental issues, including on chemicals.
• Experience working with policymakers or regulatory agencies at national or international level on policy change.
• Experience advocating for science-based policy or regulations at local, national or international levels.
• Leadership experience managing cross-functional teams in scientific research, policy formulation or government affairs.
• An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, industrial engineering, industrial innovation, toxicology or environmental management with a focus on chemicals; a Bachelor's degree in the same fields plus two years of relevant work experience may be accepted instead.

Desirable qualifications

• Relevant training or experience in public policy, environmental policy or regulatory affairs.
• Experience working with the private sector, international regulations and treaties, and data analytics.
• Completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science.
