About the role
The Head of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership for a cooperative society, translating corporate objectives into robust financial policies and operational plans. Reporting to the CEO and Board, this role ensures accurate accounting, regulatory compliance, and effective treasury management.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement financial policies, frameworks and operational plans aligned with corporate strategy.
- Lead, coach and develop the Finance team, fostering accuracy, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Maintain complete and timely accounting records in compliance with IFRS, SASRA guidelines and internal policies.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, half‑yearly and annual financial statements, management accounts and Board reports.
- Oversee treasury functions, cash‑flow forecasting, liquidity management, investment monitoring and financial risk management.
- Manage the Society’s revenue, capital and expenditure budgets and ensure adherence to approved plans.
- Ensure compliance with tax obligations, SASRA, KRA and cooperative society legislation.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulators, banks and other institutions on financial, tax and audit matters.
- Supervise the Fixed Assets Register, investment portfolio performance and emerging financial risks.
- Alert the CEO and Board to material financial irregularities, control weaknesses or non‑compliance.
- Manage banking relationships and capital‑market engagements to support funding strategy.
- Collaborate with the CEO on the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the strategic plan.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a business‑related field; Master’s degree or MBA is an advantage.
- CPA(K) with active membership in good standing with ICPAK.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of two years in senior management.
- Deep knowledge of SASRA regulations, IFRS and the Co‑operative Societies Act.
- Proven track record in financial reporting, budgeting, treasury operations, internal controls and regulatory compliance.
Required skills
- Proficiency with ERP systems or core banking platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with Navision or equivalent financial software.
