Head of Operations & Chief Pilot

About the role

Wilderness is seeking a senior aviation professional to lead its Operations department while serving as Chief Pilot. The role combines strategic oversight of flight operations with hands‑on piloting responsibilities for Cessna 208 aircraft.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate the flight operations and operations control teams to ensure efficiency and safety.
• Develop, implement and maintain company operational policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant aviation legislation, Air Operator Certificates and regulations.
• Establish an operations structure with delegated responsibilities and oversee staff welfare.
• Approve routes, airfields and operational plans, and maintain adequate qualified personnel.
• Guarantee that pilots, dispatchers and support staff hold current, valid licences and training.

Required profile

• Valid ATPL for Cessna 208 and a current type rating for the aircraft.
• Valid medical certificate, radiotelephony licence and instrument rating for ASETPA flight crew.
• At least 1,000 total flight hours, with a minimum of 500 PIC hours on Cessna 208.
• Experience in bush flying, preferably in the Maasai Mara region.
