Head of School

About the role

The Head of School will manage the day‑to‑day operations of Balivanich Primary School and act as deputy to the Executive Headteacher. This senior leadership position is responsible for implementing the School Improvement Plan, overseeing staff, and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across the bilingual curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the strategic direction and operational management of the school.
• Supervise senior managers and support the Executive Headteacher in all school affairs.
• Develop and monitor school policies on behaviour, additional support needs and health & safety.
• Oversee curriculum development, quality assurance and bilingual provision.
• Manage staff performance, professional development and recruitment.
• Drive improvement planning and quality assurance processes.
• Work collaboratively with parents, the Parent Council, local agencies and partner schools.
• Represent the school in external meetings and advise the Parent Council.

Required profile

• Qualified teacher with extensive senior leadership experience in a primary setting.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a bilingual curriculum and manage school improvement initiatives.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
• Excellent communication and partnership skills with staff, parents and external agencies.
• Commitment to inclusive education and high expectations for pupil attainment.

What we offer

• Permanent contract – 35 hours per week.
• Salary £74,277 per annum (inclusive of £2,997 Distant Islands Allowance), rising to £77,151 from August 2026.
