Head of Tax

About the role

The Head of Tax will lead EBKL’s tax strategy, compliance, reporting and risk management functions. Reporting to senior finance leadership, the role ensures tax outcomes are commercially aligned, legally compliant and defensible to regulators, auditors and shareholders while supporting sustainable value creation for the bank and its group.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement tax strategy and policy across the organisation.
• Provide transaction and business advisory on tax implications of deals and restructurings.
• Oversee tax compliance, reporting and disclosure requirements.
• Manage tax risk, controls and escalation thresholds.
• Monitor and interpret tax law and regulatory developments and coordinate implementation.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and revenue authorities.
• Lead, coach and develop the EBKL tax team, ensuring succession planning and capability growth.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in law, business, finance, accounting or related discipline.
• Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years post‑qualification tax experience, with at least 5 years in senior management within a financial institution.
• Proven experience leading complex tax audits, disputes and litigation.
• Strong knowledge of domestic, regional and international tax issues relevant to Kenya’s financial‑services sector.
• Ability to apply tax expertise to commercial decisions and manage acceptable tax risk.
