Headteacher - Preparatory Section

About the role

Jalaram Academy in Kisumu, Kenya is looking for an experienced Headteacher (Preparatory Section) to provide strategic, academic, operational, pastoral and administrative leadership. The post-holder maintains high standards of teaching and learning, oversees curriculum implementation, supports teaching staff, strengthens student welfare and safeguarding and manages the Preparatory Section efficiently. The role works closely with the Senior Principal, Heads of Department, teachers, parents and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead academic leadership and curriculum implementation, guide Heads of Department on planning, assessments, moderation and reporting, and analyse iPLSC exam results to drive improvement
• Set up annual and termly quality assurance schedules, run lesson observations and reviews, and track the effectiveness of academic interventions
• Support Heads of Department, coordinate departmental meetings and performance reviews, and promote accountability across departments
• Manage teaching loads, class assignments, timetables and teacher appraisals, and organise CPD and staff induction
• Oversee safeguarding, child protection policies, behaviour management, attendance and welfare
• Run co-curricular activities, clubs, enrichment programmes and inter-house competitions
• Manage school operations, calendars, resources, uniform policy and facilities

Required profile

• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and MA/MSc, as specified in the employer's recruitment profile
• Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC)
• At least five years' experience as a Preparatory Head or Headteacher
• Demonstrable experience in academic leadership, curriculum supervision and staff management

Required skills

• Knowledge of the Pearson Edexcel iPLSC syllabus and its implementation in an international school
• Ability to teach Mathematics and Science at Key Stage 2
• Curriculum monitoring, academic assessment and performance analysis
• Understanding of student safeguarding, welfare and behaviour management
