Homebased Consultant – Psychiatrist

About the role

The International Organization for Migration is seeking a qualified psychiatrist to work remotely as a consultant. The role involves providing psychiatric evaluations, fitness‑to‑travel determinations and mental‑health recommendations for migrants, refugees and other vulnerable populations referred by panel physicians or government officials.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments of all referred cases, including those with suspected substance‑use disorders.
• Classify diagnoses in strict accordance with CDC guidelines for U.S.‑bound refugee populations and the latest DSM classification.
• Prepare detailed clinical reports and written recommendations for follow‑up care, treatment plans and case management before and after resettlement.
• Issue fitness‑to‑travel determinations, noting any special travel requirements or support needed during pre‑embarkation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary medical teams and advise on mental‑health matters related to migration.

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialization in psychiatry and at least seven years of relevant professional experience.
• Professional accreditation from a recognized medical or psychiatric association is an advantage.
• Experience working with vulnerable populations such as migrants, refugees or displaced persons.
• Proven ability to produce clinical reports and fitness‑to‑travel assessments.
• Experience in training or mentoring medical staff is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency with DSM classification systems.
• Familiarity with CDC guidelines for refugee health assessments.
