HR Manager – Supermarkets (Kenya)

About the role

The HR Manager – Supermarkets will lead the people strategy across all supermarkets in Kenya, ensuring attraction, development, engagement and retention of talent while fostering a high‑performance culture. The role partners with business leaders to drive workforce effectiveness, employee experience and compliance with labour laws.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with branch and business leadership to translate objectives into people strategies that improve operational effectiveness and productivity.
• Lead workforce planning, manpower optimisation and deployment across branches, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and resource utilisation.
• Provide strategic guidance on employee relations, disciplinary and grievance matters in line with Kenyan labour legislation.
• Drive the performance management cycle, supporting objective setting, performance reviews and accountability.
• Develop and implement initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, experience, culture and retention.
• Support organisational changes, new store openings and transformation initiatives to ensure effective people transition.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or a related field.
• Professional HR qualification such as CHRP‑K, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP or equivalent.
• 10‑15 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a large, multi‑site retail or similar environment.
• Strong experience managing employee relations, performance, labour compliance and workforce productivity.
• Membership of a recognised HR professional body (e.g., IHRM) and a Master’s degree are added advantages.
