HSE Supervisor (Vegetable Oil Extraction Plant)

About the role

WTS Energy is seeking an experienced HSE Supervisor to lead health, safety and environmental initiatives at its vegetable oil extraction plant in Wote, Makueni. You will ensure compliance with Kenyan regulations and international standards while fostering a culture of safety across all plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, monitor and continuously improve the plant’s HSE management system.
• Conduct regular inspections, safety audits and risk assessments, and drive corrective actions.
• Lead investigations of incidents, accidents and near‑misses, performing root‑cause analysis and recommending preventive measures.
• Coordinate HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety campaigns and training for staff, contractors and visitors.
• Maintain accurate HSE records, permits, licences and statutory inspection reports.
• Monitor environmental performance, including waste, emissions and water usage.
• Support emergency preparedness, fire safety and evacuation procedures.
• Ensure compliance with Permit‑to‑Work systems and safe operating procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of HSE experience in a milling, mining or vegetable‑oil extraction environment.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan occupational safety, health and environmental legislation.
• Certification in Occupational Health & Safety (DOSHS‑approved or equivalent) and preferably a Certified Risk Assessor qualification.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with HSE reporting systems.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
• Risk assessment, incident investigation and root‑cause analysis.
• Fire safety and emergency response planning.
