Insurance Actuarial Specialist – AI Model Training

About the role

Mercor, in partnership with a leading AI lab, is building frontier AI models that can reason about insurance pricing, reserving and risk. We are looking for experienced actuarial specialists to design realistic scenarios, evaluate model outputs and help shape the next generation of AI-driven actuarial analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Design realistic pricing, reserving, valuation and profitability scenarios for AI training.
• Create work products such as pricing models, reserve reviews, actuarial memoranda and technical assumptions.
• Write high‑quality “golden” reference responses that meet professional actuarial standards.
• Grade AI‑generated outputs against structured rubrics for methodological soundness and calculation accuracy.
• Identify methodological flaws, calculation errors, unsupported assumptions and gaps in rationale.
• Provide written feedback to the research team to improve model behaviour.
• Participate in onboarding office hours and calibration sessions.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional actuarial experience in any practice area.
• Strong understanding of how methods, assumptions and data drive pricing, reserves and valuation.
• Ability to select appropriate methods, run analyses and articulate defensible conclusions with documented rationale.
• Excellent quantitative analysis, balanced judgment and high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in R, Python, SAS and SQL.
• Experience with actuarial software such as Prophet, Emblem, Radar or ResQ.
