Inventory Accountant

About the role

Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi (Westlands) is hiring a full-time Inventory Accountant. The role covers fixed assets and inventory accounting, including reconciliations, depreciation, stock controls and inventory reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Reconcile the Fixed Asset Register to the General Ledger and break down assets into cost, depreciation and net book value.
• Post all invoices in the ERP system with accurate description, class, cost and depreciation rate for capital expenditure items.
• Review invoices against supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Plan and schedule inventory checks, counts, asset verification and tagging, circulate quarterly count timetables and follow up on variances.
• Review inventory adjustment requests and disposals, ensuring they comply with policy and are properly accounted for under IFRS.
• Ensure fixed assets are tagged before capitalization in the ERP and compute monthly depreciation by asset group.
• Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the General Ledger for fixed assets and stocks before each month-end close.
• Monitor stock in transit and follow up with stock controllers for timely clearance.
• Take part in internal and statutory audits and lead efforts to safeguard inventory assets across all clusters.
• Analyze monthly inventory reports and give management insights to optimize stock levels and reduce holding costs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, commerce, business administration or a related discipline.
• CPA II qualification.
• 4 years of general accounting experience in a busy accounting department.

Required skills

• Good command of accounting principles.
• Experience with ERP systems and IFRS-based accounting.
