Investigation Officer (P-2) – UNICEF Nairobi

About the role

The Investigation Officer (P‑2) will join UNICEF’s Office of Internal Audit and Investigation in Nairobi. Reporting to the Chief of Investigations, the incumbent will support the planning, execution and reporting of investigations into alleged misconduct, fraud, waste, and sexual exploitation and abuse, ensuring compliance with UNICEF policies and UN standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing investigation work‑plans and coordinating field activities across UNICEF locations.
• Conduct interviews, obtain statements, review documents and analyse evidence to build factual findings.
• Prepare clear, evidence‑based reports and recommend appropriate disciplinary or administrative actions.
• Support investigations of sensitive matters, including sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment, following victim‑centred principles.
• Maintain case files, ensure adherence to evidentiary standards and contribute to continuous improvement of investigative procedures.

Required profile

• University degree in law, criminology, public administration or a related field.
• Relevant experience in investigations, audit, compliance or law enforcement, preferably within an international or humanitarian organization.
• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and complex cases with professionalism.
• Willingness to travel to UNICEF sites, including difficult duty stations.

Required skills

• Strong investigative techniques, including interview and evidence‑collection methods.
• Knowledge of UN and UNICEF regulations, policies and procedural standards.
• Excellent analytical and report‑writing abilities.
