Irish Language Teacher (Gaeilge) – Fixed Term

About the role

We are seeking a qualified teacher to deliver Irish language (Gaeilge) and an additional subject at Coláiste Pobail Osraí on a fixed‑term basis. The position involves 13 teaching hours per week (7 hours of Gaeilge and 6 hours of another subject) and is based on‑site at our community college.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons through Irish, following the national curriculum and school syllabus.
• Develop and assess student work, providing constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate cross‑curricular links such as literacy, numeracy and critical thinking.
• Stay current with syllabus updates and educational best practices.
• Maintain professional standards and contribute to the school’s learning community.

Required profile

• Registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland (essential) and a valid registration certificate.
• Qualified teacher status – either completed or in the final year of a degree/post‑graduate diploma leading to teaching qualification.
• Ability to demonstrate the four key teaching competencies: Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice, Communication & Relationship Building, and Self‑Awareness & Self‑Management.
• Strong commitment to teaching through Irish and to continuous professional development.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Irish language pedagogy and the relevant subject matter.
• Understanding of curriculum design, assessment strategies and cross‑curricular integration.
• Up‑to‑date awareness of changes in the Irish education system and subject specifications.
