IT Administrator

About the role

The IT Administrator keeps the company's technology running: the laptops, accounts, network and licences that every other department depends on. The role is based in Nairobi and is performed on-site, reporting centrally while sitting close to every function. It is responsible for maintaining IT systems, networks, hardware and software, supporting users and protecting devices, licences, access and data.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a live, accurate asset register of every device owned by the company, including owner, condition, repair history and replacement date.
• Track every licence and subscription, flag unused ones before renewal and flag unlicensed systems early.
• Own the helpdesk end to end: log requests, resolve them within agreed turnaround times and escalate what cannot be fixed.
• Set up new joiners and retrieve equipment from leavers on the day.
• Keep the office network and WiFi running reliably and securely, segregating guest traffic from company traffic and liaising with the ISP on faults outside the office.
• Create, change and remove user access across all systems, keeping accounts traceable to a person.
• Run baseline security controls (endpoint protection, patching, backups, multi-factor authentication) and keep practice in line with the Data Protection Act, 2019.

Required profile

• Three or more years in IT administration, systems administration or a helpdesk role with hands-on ownership.
• Clear written English, since tickets, procedures and the asset register are the main records of the work.

Required skills

• Practical experience with Windows/macOS and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace administration.
• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) and hands-on configuration of routers, switches and WiFi access points.
• Security fundamentals: endpoint protection, firewalls, backups and access control.
