Junior School Teacher Intern – STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)

About the role

The Junior School Teacher Intern will deliver STEM education to learners in the Kakuma, Kalobeyei and Dadaab settlement areas. Working under the supervision of the Heateacher (LWF), the intern will support curriculum implementation, classroom management and community engagement within a refugee education context.

Key responsibilities

• Teach STEM lessons aligned with national standards using project‑based and hands‑on methods.
• Ensure safe use of laboratories and technology, prepare lesson plans and teaching aids, and assess learners for examinations.
• Maintain classroom discipline and provide basic counselling to students.
• Train and mentor incentive teachers in modern pedagogy and special‑needs education.
• Support the production and maintenance of teaching and learning materials.
• Participate in teacher trainings and learning circles.
• Facilitate parent‑teacher association activities and promote girls’ education and inclusive, safe school environments.
• Manage classroom resources, keep accurate inventories of textbooks and equipment, and ensure proper storage.
• Collaborate with local schools to share teaching approaches and organise inter‑school academic and co‑curricular activities.
• Prepare learners for post‑primary education, identify talents, foster confidence and critical thinking, and provide career guidance.

Required profile

• Degree in education with a two‑subject STEM combination (e.g., Biology/Chemistry, Mathematics/Chemistry, Physics/Chemistry, Mathematics/Physics).
• Registered with the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) as a qualified teacher.
• Experience in refugee or humanitarian education settings is an advantage.
