Key Account Manager (Travel Industry)

About the role
The Key Account Manager will develop, manage and grow relationships with key travel industry accounts in Nairobi, ensuring client satisfaction and revenue growth.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for assigned key accounts, handling all commercial inquiries.
- Build deep relationships with decision‑makers and influencers to foster loyalty and retention.
- Conduct regular reviews of client needs, performance metrics and travel patterns to propose tailored solutions.
- Visit partners weekly to strengthen rapport with management and agents.
- Develop and implement strategic account plans to meet or exceed sales targets.
- Identify upsell and cross‑sell opportunities for additional travel products or services.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity and client industry developments.
- Facilitate onboarding and training on the company’s booking platforms.
- Organise periodic training sessions on new features, products and booking solutions.
- Attend industry events, conferences and trade shows to represent the company.
- Collaborate with marketing, product and operations teams to deliver customised solutions.
- Analyse sales data, travel trends and client usage to identify growth opportunities.
- Prepare and present regular performance reports with actionable insights.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and sales activities in CRM tools.
- Proactively resolve issues, complaints or service challenges.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Travel Management or related field (Master’s a plus).
- 3‑5+ years of experience in key account management, sales or business development within B2B travel.
- Strong understanding of the travel sector, booking platforms and corporate travel challenges.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets with excellent negotiation skills.
- Ability to interpret data, analyse account performance and generate insights.
- Customer‑centric mindset with a focus on relationship building.
- Familiarity with CRM software and booking platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Competencies: client relationship management, strategic planning, sales optimisation, problem solving, teamwork, adaptability.
