Laboratory Manager

About the role

The Laboratory Manager will lead a hospital laboratory in Nairobi, ensuring efficient operations, regulatory compliance, and timely delivery of accurate diagnostic results. This senior‑level position requires strong technical expertise across multiple laboratory disciplines and proven leadership skills.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily workflow for all laboratory sections (Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Histopathology, Blood Bank, Molecular Diagnostics).
• Monitor turnaround times and ensure rapid reporting of test results.
• Implement and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) in line with ISO 15189, CAP/JCI/NABH standards.
• Manage internal quality control (IQC) and external quality assurance (EQA) programs.
• Lead audits, accreditation activities, and corrective‑action processes.
• Coordinate equipment calibration, maintenance, and inventory control.
• Prepare budgets, procure reagents, and manage laboratory supplies.
• Collaborate with clinicians and hospital departments to support patient care.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; Master’s degree in Laboratory Management, Microbiology, Pathology or related field.
• Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) and a valid practicing license.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing a hospital laboratory.
• Strong knowledge of Ministry of Health regulations and occupational health & safety standards.
