About the role
The School of Pharmacy at Mount Kenya University is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support practical laboratory sessions, research projects, and academic activities. The role is on‑site and involves preparing equipment, assisting students and staff, and ensuring a safe laboratory environment.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare laboratories, equipment, reagents and materials for practical classes, examinations and research.
- Provide technical support to lecturers and students during practical sessions, demonstrating proper equipment use.
- Operate, maintain, calibrate and perform routine checks on laboratory equipment, reporting faults for repair.
- Prepare, label, store and handle chemicals, reagents, specimens and samples safely.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, calibration, consumables and laboratory activities.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, including waste disposal.
Required profile
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology or a related field (e.g., Medical Laboratory Sciences, Applied Biology, Chemistry).
- At least two years of experience in a similar laboratory role.
- Registration with the Pharmacy & Poisons Board.
Required skills
- Operation, maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Preparation and handling of reagents, chemicals and specimens.
- Laboratory safety, health and environmental compliance.
