Lathe Machine Operator

About the role

Talent Grid Africa, on behalf of a leading LPG gas cylinder manufacturer, is seeking a skilled Lathe Machine Operator to run and maintain lathe equipment in a high‑volume production environment. The role focuses on producing precision components to exact engineering specifications while ensuring safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional and CNC lathe machines to produce parts according to drawings.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and machining instructions.
• Perform turning, boring, drilling, reaming, threading, and tapping operations.
• Inspect finished parts with precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy.
• Carry out routine machine cleaning, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting, reporting faults promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organised work area and comply with health, safety, and quality regulations.
• Achieve daily production targets by minimising waste, downtime, and re‑work.
• Collaborate with supervisors, quality inspectors, and maintenance teams.

Required profile

• Technical Certificate, Diploma or Trade Test in Mechanical Engineering, Machining or Production Engineering.
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating conventional or CNC lathe machines in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools and material properties.
• Basic machine maintenance skills.
