Lead Interior Designer (Commercial Projects)

About the role

Imperium is seeking a Lead Interior Designer to drive the creative vision for commercial workspaces, offices, restaurants and retail fit‑outs across East Africa. You will own the design process from space planning through material specification and 3D visualisation, working directly with the Managing Director and project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design concept for every project, including space planning, material palette, furniture selection, lighting strategy and brand integration.
• Produce full 3D visualisations and rendered walkthroughs using SketchUp, Enscape or equivalent tools.
• Develop detailed design documentation such as drawings, material schedules, finish specifications and furniture BOQs.
• Present design concepts to senior client stakeholders and manage design revisions based on feedback.
• Coordinate closely with the Site Project Manager, conduct site visits, and ensure design intent is executed accurately.
• Review and approve material samples and furniture mock‑ups against approved specifications.

Required profile

• A degree or diploma in Interior Architecture, Interior Design or Architecture.
• Minimum 4 years of commercial interior design experience, with at least 2 years on fit‑out projects.
• Strong portfolio of completed commercial projects with clear role description.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for boardroom‑level client meetings.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SketchUp (or equivalent 3D modelling software).
• Experience with rendering tools such as Enscape or V‑Ray.
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD for technical drawings.
• Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop and InDesign for presentation materials.
