About the role
The University seeks a qualified Lecturer to join its Civil Engineering department, focusing on Geospatial and Surveying Engineering. The role combines teaching, research supervision, and departmental service.
Key responsibilities
- Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students through lectures, tutorials, labs, seminars and project work.
- Create examination papers, manage moderation, administer exams and evaluate coursework and scripts promptly and fairly.
- Guide students in academic planning, research choices and professional development as an advisor and mentor.
- Design and update course content, laboratory guides, case studies and digital learning resources to keep programmes current.
- Oversee student research from proposal development to final presentation or defence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Write grant applications, develop research programmes and pursue external funding aligned with departmental priorities.
- Contribute to curriculum review, strategic planning, accreditation work and other academic administrative tasks.
- Participate in seminars, workshops, conferences and professional networks to share knowledge and build partnerships.
Required profile
- PhD or equivalent in a relevant engineering field, with registration on the Engineers Board of Kenya.
- Alternatively, a Master’s degree with at least three years of university teaching, research or industry experience, plus a minimum of 24 publication points (including 10 refereed journal points).
- Current registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, assess and supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Evidence of scholarly activity, research writing and capacity to develop competitive funding proposals.
- Commitment to curriculum development, interdisciplinary collaboration and professional engineering ethics.
