Lecturer - Optometrist (AN Scale KMTC 8)

About the role

Kenya Medical Training College is recruiting a Lecturer in Optometry (AN scale, KMTC 8) based in Nairobi, Westlands. The post involves teaching and assessing optometry students, supporting curriculum implementation and continuing education, and conducting research in the field.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and evaluate students
• Prepare schemes of work, lesson notes and lesson plans
• Assess students in clinical areas
• Guide and counsel students on academic matters
• Support the design and development of instruments to assess health training needs
• Develop guidelines for evaluating health teaching materials
• Evaluate training programmes to determine their effectiveness and relevance
• Implement the competence-based curriculum
• Plan and organise continuing education programmes for health workers
• Conduct research in the area of specialisation and supervise students on research projects

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Optometry, or a KMTC Higher Diploma in Optometry (Contact Lenses) or (Low Vision) with at least six years of practice in the relevant field
• Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable
• Valid practicing licence
