Lecturer, Special Needs Education - Inclusive Education

About the role

Mount Kenya University is seeking a dedicated Lecturer to join the School of Education, focusing on Special Needs and Inclusive Education. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate, diploma and certificate programmes, contribute to curriculum development, and support research initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in curriculum design, review and preparation of course outlines.
• Develop learning materials that align with the syllabus and ensure comprehensive coverage.
• Deliver lectures, tutorials and practical sessions for various programmes.
• Set, invigilate and grade examinations, maintaining rigorous academic standards.
• Supervise student projects, guide thesis defenses and monitor attendance compliance.
• Conduct research, publish findings and present at conferences.
• Seek external funding to support departmental research activities.
• Facilitate field studies, internships and assess student performance during placements.
• Attend departmental and university meetings, and perform assigned administrative duties.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Special Needs Education (Inclusive Education) from a recognized institution.
• Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education) with a specialization in Inclusive Education.
• Minimum two years of teaching experience at university level.
• Registration with the relevant professional body.
• Ability to report to the Dean of the School of Education.
