Legal Counsel – Nairobi

About the role

The Legal Counsel will deliver high‑quality legal representation, advice and legal‑aid services to women and girls in Kenya. You will support strategic litigation, advocacy initiatives and strengthen alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to further FIDA‑Kenya’s mission of gender equality and access to justice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and legal‑aid services to clients in line with FIDA‑Kenya’s mandate.
• Represent clients before courts, tribunals and quasi‑judicial bodies.
• Draft pleadings, affidavits, submissions, witness statements and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and deliver sound legal opinions.
• Support and manage strategic litigation aimed at advancing women’s rights and gender justice.
• Maintain an assigned litigation portfolio, ensuring timely case progression and accurate records.

Required profile

• LL.B degree from a recognised university.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
• Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practising certificate.
• Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
• At least 2 years of post‑admission legal experience, preferably in litigation and legal advisory services.
• Experience in gender justice, human rights, family law, succession, children’s rights or public‑interest litigation is an advantage.
• Experience working with civil‑society or development organisations is desirable.
