About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Locum Nutritionist to lead nutrition screening, treatment of acute malnutrition, micronutrient supplementation and promotion of appropriate MIYCN practices in health facilities. Reporting to the Senior Nutrition Officer, you will work directly with under‑five children, pregnant and lactating women, and community health workers in a humanitarian setting.
Key responsibilities
- Implement Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) protocols for OTP/TSFP programs, ensuring compliance with WHO 2023 guidelines.
- Conduct daily ward rounds, document observations and treatments in patient cards, and manage children under six months according to MAMI/IMAM guidelines.
- Collect, enter and report nutrition data using registers, tablets and the KHIS/LMIS system, and submit weekly and monthly reports.
- Strengthen nutrition surveillance at facilities and in the community, identifying and treating acutely malnourished children and pregnant/lactating women.
- Provide capacity‑building and on‑the‑job training for CHWs, OPD staff and auxiliary nurses.
- Deliver MIYCN counselling and health‑education sessions, integrating them with CMAM programmes.
- Monitor and reconcile nutrition commodity stocks, and coordinate ordering with pharmacy staff.
Required profile
- Minimum Diploma in Foods, Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the Kenya Nutrition and Dietetics Institute (KNDI).
- At least 3 years of experience in an INGO implementing emergency community nutrition programmes.
- Proven experience with maternal, infant and young child nutrition, IMAM, and high‑impact nutrition interventions.
- Ability to work in hardship or camp settings and travel to remote health facilities.
Required skills
- Use of Health Information Systems (HIS) for data entry and reporting.
- Strong computer skills, including Excel and data‑collection tools.
- Report writing and analytical skills.
- Data collection and entry for nutrition surveillance.
