Maintenance Assistant Technician

About the role

The Maintenance Assistant Technician supports the Maintenance Technician in keeping all machines and factory equipment safe, running and in good condition. The role involves routine servicing, assisting with breakdown repairs and maintaining accurate maintenance records on the factory floor and workshop.

Key responsibilities

• Preventive maintenance: follow daily, weekly and monthly servicing schedules, performing cleaning, lubrication and checks of belts, bearings, heaters, sealing bars, rollers, motors, cooling systems and compressors.
• Breakdown response: respond to machine faults reported by the Production Supervisor, help diagnose and repair under the Maintenance Technician’s direction, and record fault cause, action taken and downtime.
• Spare parts and consumables: identify required spares, list low‑stock items, collect parts from the Storekeeper and keep used parts for review.
• Tools and equipment: sign for maintenance tools, keep them in good order, return them after use and report any loss or damage.
• Safety: isolate and lock‑out machines before repairs, wear required PPE, keep the workshop clean and report hazards immediately.
• Records: maintain up‑to‑date machine histories, logging maintenance tasks, faults and running hours.

Required profile

• Certificate or diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a recognised technical trade qualification.
• 1–2 years of factory maintenance experience, preferably with plastic extrusion, bag‑making or printing machines.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems, pneumatics and mechanical drives.
• Ability to read basic machine manuals and wiring diagrams.
• Safety‑conscious, reliable and willing to respond to urgent faults, including outside normal hours.
