Maintenance Manager – Plant, Material Handling & Power Generation Equipment

About the role

We are seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the reliability and upkeep of plant, material‑handling and power‑generation equipment in Nairobi. The role oversees forklifts, reach stackers, top loaders and generators, ensuring safe, cost‑effective operation through robust maintenance planning and team leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and monitor preventive maintenance programmes for all heavy equipment based on usage cycles.
• Lead a team of mechanics and auto‑electricians, assigning work orders, managing shifts and ensuring compliance with SOPs.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmission and electronic controls, analysing telemetry to prevent breakdowns.
• Control inventory of critical components and manage the annual maintenance budget, tracking expenditures on parts and outsourced services.
• Ensure adherence to local health‑and‑safety regulations and conduct regular inspections of maintenance bays and tooling.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive or Industrial Engineering.
• 8–10 years of maintenance management experience in heavy‑equipment or industrial environments.
• Proven track record in improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime and controlling costs.
• Experience leading technical teams and coordinating with third‑party service providers.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engine repair and electrical/electronic control systems.
• Ability to work safely with high‑voltage forklift batteries and perform computer‑aided diagnostics.
