Managing Director & CEO

About the role

The Managing Director & CEO will provide strategic and visionary leadership for KenGen, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. This senior executive is accountable for the overall performance, sustainability and growth of the company, ensuring alignment with national energy priorities and shareholder expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the accounting and authorized officer of the company.
• Develop and execute corporate strategy, annual business plans, budgets and performance targets.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations, optimizing resource utilization across finance, human resources, technology and physical assets.
• Advise the Board with strategic proposals, investment plans, policies and performance reports.
• Lead enterprise risk management, internal controls, business continuity, legal compliance and ethical governance.
• Drive financial performance, capital investment decisions and sustainable growth.
• Champion innovation, digital transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Represent KenGen with government, regulators, investors, development partners and industry stakeholders.
• Foster a high‑performance culture, talent development, succession planning and inclusive leadership.
• Act as the principal spokesperson, safeguarding corporate reputation and stakeholder communication.

Required profile

• Extensive senior executive experience, preferably in the energy or utilities sector.
• Proven track record in strategic planning, corporate governance and stakeholder management.
• Strong financial acumen and experience overseeing large‑scale capital projects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead organizational transformation and drive operational excellence.
• Excellent communication and public representation skills.
