Marine Machinist – Precision Machining for US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Machinist to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves precision machining, repair, installation and maintenance of marine machinery to ensure vessel readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders and other precision equipment to fabricate and modify parts.
• Perform alignment, installation, repair and preventive maintenance on pumps, valves, engines, gear mechanisms and hydraulic systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and technical manuals to produce components to specification.
• Diagnose mechanical issues, troubleshoot and execute repairs on marine vessels and equipment.
• Maintain accurate work records, parts logs and inspection reports while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1‑3 years experience as a Marine Machinist or in a related mechanical trade.
• Valid passport (minimum one year validity) and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.
• Ability to meet contract medical, security and deployment requirements.
• Willingness to work in an austere OCONUS environment with a multinational workforce.

Required skills

• Proficiency with machine tools: lathes, milling machines, grinders.
• Experience in precision machining and use of measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
• Knowledge of marine mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and blueprints.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
