Marine Technical Superintendent – Fleet Management

About the role

Lamu Shipping Ltd is seeking an experienced Marine Technical Superintendent to lead the technical management of its fleet operating along the East African coast. The role ensures vessels are safe, reliable and compliant with all statutory, class and flag‑state requirements while supporting efficient operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight and support to all vessels under management.
• Develop, monitor and execute planned maintenance programmes, corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate dry‑docking, repairs, surveys, inspections and class/statutory compliance.
• Liaise with Flag State authorities, Classification Societies, shipyards, manufacturers and contractors.
• Review maintenance reports, defect lists and survey findings, ensuring timely close‑out.
• Monitor vessel performance, fuel consumption and machinery condition, recommending improvements.
• Prepare and manage technical budgets, repair estimates and cost‑effective procurement.
• Source and evaluate suppliers for spares, consumables and technical services.
• Participate in vessel inspections, audits, incident investigations and root‑cause analysis.
• Support the development and implementation of the company’s Safety Management System.

Required profile

• Qualified marine engineer or equivalent technical background.
• Proven experience in technical management of commercial vessels.
• Strong knowledge of statutory, class and flag‑state regulations.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with masters, chief engineers and shore management.
• Ability to manage budgets, procurement and supplier relationships.
