Marine Welder / Shipfitter

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Welder – Shipfitter to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves welding, fabrication, and structural repair of marine vessels and associated shipboard systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform welding, fabrication, and structural repair on hulls, bulkheads, decks, frames, and other ship components.
• Weld a variety of metals and alloys, including high‑tensile steel, copper‑nickel, aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel.
• Fabricate and install piping systems for high‑pressure steam, compressed air, fuel, hydraulic, ballast, and other shipboard services.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, welding symbols, schematics, and engineering specifications.
• Prepare materials by cutting, grinding, beveling, cleaning, and fitting before welding.
• Operate welding equipment (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW) and oxy‑fuel cutting tools, as well as fabrication equipment such as grinders, plasma cutters, and drill presses.
• Inspect welds and assemblies for compliance with military, commercial, and industry codes.
• Maintain welding certifications and follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications.
• Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to confined‑space, hot‑work, and hazardous‑material safety procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience in marine welding and shipfitting.
• Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications.
• Current welding certifications and willingness to maintain them.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and craftsmanship in a demanding shipyard environment.
