Maternal and Newborn Health Coordinator

About the role

The Kenya Red Cross Society is seeking a Maternal and Newborn Health Coordinator to provide technical and operational support for MNH programme implementation across Turkana, Samburu and Garissa counties. The role will work closely with County Health Management Teams, health facilities and partners to strengthen the quality, timeliness and continuity of maternal and newborn services.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and support implementation of maternal and newborn health interventions in assigned counties according to approved workplans and technical standards.
• Strengthen provider competence through mentorship, simulation, case reviews and supportive supervision.
• Facilitate coordination between health facilities, referral hospitals and county stakeholders to improve emergency referral systems and blood access.
• Contribute to programme monitoring, documentation, reporting and evidence use at the county level.
• Serve as the primary county focal point for day‑to‑day engagement with County Health Management Teams and facility leadership.

Required profile

• Qualified candidate with experience in coordinating maternal and newborn health programmes.
• Knowledge of Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC), MPDSR, mentorship and quality improvement processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with county health teams, facility in‑charges and technical partners.
• Strong understanding of county health systems and referral networks in Kenya.
