Mechanical Engineer - Stainless Steel Fabrication

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a full-time Mechanical Engineer based on Mombasa Road. The role centres on stainless steel fabrication and welding, reading technical drawings and producing metal components to specification.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate stainless steel by cutting, measuring, marking, bending, grinding and assembling metal components, and perform TIG welding with strong, clean, precise joints.
• Polish, grind and finish products to the required surface quality, and select the right consumables, tools and equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches and specifications, taking accurate measurements and checking tolerances.
• Help prepare cutting lists, fabrication layouts and material requirements, and flag discrepancies in drawings.
• Fabricate, fit and assemble structures, frames and other metal products, collaborating with production staff and welders to meet project timelines.
• Inspect components and welds against approved drawings and quality standards, correcting defects and recommending process improvements.
• Operate welding machines, grinders, cutting tools and drilling machines safely, maintain tools and machinery, keep the workshop clean and follow health and safety procedures and PPE.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution.
• At least 1-2 years of hands-on experience in stainless steel fabrication, TIG welding, metal fabrication or manufacturing.
• Demonstrable practical experience in TIG welding, especially on stainless steel.

Required skills

• Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, welding techniques, workshop tools and machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication specifications.
• Understanding of dimensional measurements, tolerances, material selection and quality control.
• Basic knowledge of occupational health and safety in a workshop.
