Mechanical Fitter – Tobacco Machinery

About the role

Q-Sourcing, a manpower management firm operating across East Africa, is recruiting a skilled and experienced Mechanical Fitter in Thika, Kenya on behalf of its client. The fitter installs, maintains and troubleshoots mechanical problems of production machinery and equipment, with a strong commitment to safety.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and repair components of tobacco machinery; perform routine inspections, online tasks and preventive maintenance
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and repair or replace faulty parts, and carry out modifications as directed by the plant engineer
• Lubricate machinery regularly, maintain machine center-lines such as conveyor belts, and operate lathes and milling machines
• Weld and fabricate, resolve motor, conveyor and hydraulic problems, erect scaffolding and work at height
• Maintain shakers, fans, gearboxes, classifiers and dryers, sharpen baskets and install gutters
• Follow safety protocols including lockout/tag-out (LOTO) and PPE, conduct safety inspections and report incidents and near misses
• Keep accurate records of production activity and write reports on line performance with improvement recommendations

Required profile

• Craft certificate or diploma in Mechanical Engineering (plant/production option) from KNEC
• At least 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar role
