Medical Officer

About the role

Tenwek Hospital is seeking a qualified Medical Officer to join its clinical team in Nairobi, Westlands. The role involves delivering high-quality, evidence-based medical care to both in‑patients and out‑patients, with a focus on cardiovascular and general medical conditions. The successful candidate will work in a busy teaching and referral hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care following clinical guidelines.
• Participate in the stabilization and management of emergency and critically ill patients.
• Review investigations, formulate treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
• Collaborate with cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses and other professionals to ensure coordinated care.
• Take part in ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings and clinical audits.
• Maintain accurate, confidential patient records.
• Educate patients and families on disease prevention, treatment plans and healthy lifestyles.
• Adhere to hospital policies, quality standards, infection control and patient safety protocols.
• Engage in continuous medical education, research and quality improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
• Valid registration and practicing license with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
• Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is an advantage.
• Minimum two years of post‑internship clinical experience in a busy hospital setting.
• Experience in cardiology, emergency medicine, critical care or internal medicine is desirable.
