Medical Officer – Outreach Clinic

About the role

The Medical Officer will lead clinical care at the Outreach Clinic in Meru, providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic patients. The role involves close collaboration with hospital specialists and the clinic team to ensure coordinated, patient‑centred services.

Key responsibilities

• Review and examine patients by taking histories, performing physical examinations and ordering laboratory and radiology investigations in line with evidence‑based protocols.
• Monitor the progress of acutely and chronically ill patients on a regular basis.
• Discuss diagnostic and therapeutic options with patients and caregivers to improve care outcomes.
• Perform emergency surgical and medical procedures when required.
• Provide screening, wellness examinations, risk assessment and preventive education.
• Coordinate timely referrals and consultations with relevant specialists.
• Work with clinic and hospital management to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient resource use.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent.
• Successful completion of at least one year of post‑graduate internship.
• Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
• Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate.

Required skills

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) proficiency.
• Ability to order and interpret diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies.
