Medical Superintendent

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Medical Superintendent to lead the daily operations of its hospital. This senior position oversees administration, human resources, finance, and the delivery of high‑quality patient care in a humanitarian setting.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor the provision of health services across all hospital departments.
• Ensure good governance, compliance with national health quality standards, and safety and security within the facility.
• Lead planning and development of new specialized units and maintain hospital infrastructure.
• Utilise information and communication technologies to improve service delivery.
• Develop and implement the Annual Work Plan in line with the hospital’s strategic objectives.
• Oversee procurement of medical and surgical supplies in collaboration with the pharmacist and matron.
• Manage special clinics (SOPC, GOPC, HRC, MOPC, POPC) and supervise revenue collection.
• Conduct elective surgical and gynecological cases twice weekly and handle medical‑legal matters.
• Provide performance management and professional development for staff.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MB ChB, MD, BDS) or equivalent.
• Post‑graduate qualification in management or health policy (e.g., MPH, MSc Health Policy & Management, MA Hospital Management, MBA).
• Evidence of leadership training and continuous professional development in health management.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in hospital administration or a similar senior health‑service role.
