Meru Landscape Manager

About the role

The Born Free Foundation is seeking a Meru Landscape Manager to lead its conservation programme in Meru County, Kenya. Reporting to the Head of Kenya Programmes, the manager will provide technical and operational leadership for all activities across the Meru landscape, ensuring effective delivery, partnership building and compliance with donor and government requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, design, implement, monitor and report on all Born Free programmes within the Meru landscape, aligning with national strategies and organisational priorities.
• Oversee day‑to‑day field operations, including species monitoring, protection activities, human‑wildlife coexistence initiatives and community engagement.
• Supervise and support field staff, manage performance, conduct inductions and facilitate capacity‑building programmes.
• Ensure sound financial management, timely donor reporting and compliance with organisational, donor and governmental policies.
• Represent the organisation with local communities, government agencies, wildlife authorities, partners and donors to foster collaborative conservation outcomes.

Required profile

• Minimum five years (60 months) of experience managing landscape‑scale conservation or environmental programmes.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams in field settings.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain partnerships with community groups, government bodies and donors.
• Strong understanding of wildlife conservation, human‑wildlife conflict mitigation and sustainable livelihoods.
