Midwife

About the role

Médecins Sans Frontières is recruiting a full-time midwife for its Dadaab project. The midwife provides obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, following MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols and universal hygienic and newborn-care standards, under the supervision of a specialist doctor.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure continuity of antenatal, postnatal, family planning, BEmONC 1 and CEmONC 2, neonatal, abortion care, sexual violence management, reproductive tract infection and fistula care, and implement PMTCT in ANC, delivery and PNC consultations.
• Assess, follow up and evaluate admitted patients, inform the supervisor and medical doctor of deterioration or consent refusal, and correctly complete patient files and clinical charts.
• Assist doctors in interviewing and examining patients, collaborate with TBAs and community health workers on referrals, and help organize the ward with handovers between shifts.
• Ensure hygiene and sterilization standards, maintain biomedical equipment, and keep drug supplies and obstetric material properly stocked.
• Care for newborns until discharge, promote breastfeeding and vaccination, and manage obstetric emergencies and high-risk discharges.
• Supervise admission procedures, inform patients of hospital routines, and take part in data compilation, meetings, case reviews and mortality reviews.

Required profile

• Diploma in Nursing specialized in Midwifery (essential).
• At least two years of proven experience in midwifery-related work (essential).
• Proficiency in English and Kiswahili; Somali is desirable.
• Desirable: previous experience with MSF.
