Mobile Security Technician

About the role

We are seeking a Mobile Security Technician to join Sun King’s Cyber Security Team in Nairobi. As an ethical hacker you will identify security loopholes in smartphones and other devices to strengthen digital and financial inclusion for our customers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct offensive security assessments of hardware, firmware, embedded OS and payment stacks on Sun King mobile devices.
• Reverse‑engineer firmware, perform static and dynamic reviews, and detect vulnerabilities in bootloaders, MDMs, Android kernel components and cryptographic mechanisms.
• Develop proof‑of‑concept attacks and demonstrate business impact.
• Collaborate with product, hardware and software teams to define secure development practices and contribute to threat modeling and architecture reviews.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Android security, Mobile Device Management and IoT device architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with hardware exploitation techniques such as JTAG/SWD/UART debugging, side‑channel analysis and fault injection.
• Proficiency in reverse‑engineering tools (Ghidra, IDA Pro, Binary Ninja) and debugging hardware (JTAGulator, OpenOCD, Bus Pirate).
• Experience reviewing and modifying firmware images using binwalk, Firmadyne or QEMU.

Required skills

• Python, C/C++, Bash scripting.
• Tools: Flash 64, Pandora, Easy JTag, Chimera, CM2.
• Embedded security concepts: secure boot, TPM/TEE, flash encryption.
• Understanding of common vulnerability classes such as memory corruption and insecure update mechanisms.
