National Consultant – Field Coordination

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) seeks a National Consultant to coordinate field activities for the South Sudan component of the EU Operational Support to the IGAD Platform. The role is based in Aweil and focuses on supporting urban development, spatial planning, housing, land and property rights, and durable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare regular field progress reports and serve as UN-Habitat’s focal point in Aweil, maintaining communication with authorities, partners and communities.
• Coordinate field activities, provide technical and logistical support, and monitor implementation of urban development, spatial planning, HLP and land tenure interventions.
• Facilitate training, capacity‑building and gender‑responsive community consultations on spatial planning and participatory processes.
• Collect, map, verify and validate data to support project planning and produce technical inputs for assessments and planning documents.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Urban Management, Public Administration, Local Governance, Development Studies or related field (or first‑level degree plus two years experience).
• Minimum two years of relevant professional experience in urban planning, spatial planning, land governance or related fields.

Required skills

• Knowledge of spatial planning and urban development processes.
• Understanding of housing, land and property rights and land tenure issues.
• Experience with participatory planning and community engagement.
