Nursing Manager

About the role

The Nursing Manager provides leadership for nursing services across the hospital and ensures the delivery of safe, compassionate and evidence-based patient care. The role oversees nursing workforce planning, professional development, patient care standards and nursing quality improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise nursing staff across departments
• Ensure compliance with nursing practice standards and patient care protocols
• Maintain optimal nurse-to-patient ratios across shifts and manage nursing workforce scheduling and staffing efficiency
• Implement infection prevention and patient safety programmes
• Promote continuous professional development for nursing staff
• Monitor nursing quality indicators and patient satisfaction levels
• Foster a supportive and high-performance nursing culture

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Master's degree in Nursing Administration or Healthcare Management preferred
• Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya
• Minimum 8 years of nursing experience, including 3-5 years in leadership roles

Success factors

• Quality and safe nursing care across all units
• Nurse-to-patient staffing ratios maintained while minimising overtime and reliance on agency staff
• Infection prevention compliance, including at least 95% hand hygiene adherence and infection rates within national benchmarks
• Patient satisfaction of at least 85%, documentation compliance of at least 98% and medication administration accuracy of at least 99%
• Annual nursing staff turnover at or below 18%
