Ocean & Road Freight Controller

About the role

The Ocean & Road Freight Controller will manage end‑to‑end freight operations for ocean and road shipments, ensuring smooth handovers, compliance with Kenyan customs regulations, and timely delivery to consignees.

Key responsibilities

• Receive handover from the Pricing team or client and open physical and CargoWise files to obtain shipment numbers.
• Coordinate the preparation and submission of Import Declaration Forms (IDFs) and arrange inspections with KEBS‑approved agencies such as SGS or Intertek.
• Collect quality and ISO certificates from suppliers, oversee cargo inspections, and obtain the Certificate of Conformity (COC).
• Notify partners or agents to schedule collection, issue pre‑alerts, and manage insurance arrangements.
• Retrieve manifests from carriers, prepare customs entries, and share documentation with finance for payment.
• Track verification and release status with field operations officers and inform consignees upon release.
• Close files, verify freight invoices and handling fees, and forward invoices to clients for payment.
• Handle clearance‑only shipments by verifying exemption status, reviewing documents, and processing billing activities.

Required profile

• Mid‑level experience (minimum 2 years) in freight forwarding, road or ocean cargo handling.
• Familiarity with Kenyan customs procedures and KEBS‑approved inspection agencies.
• Strong documentation management and coordination skills with suppliers, agents, and clients.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CargoWise freight management system.
