Operational Risk Advisor

About the role

The Operational Risk Advisor will support the Head of Operational and Resilience Risk in delivering the operational risk strategy across all business areas in Kenya. The role involves providing specialist advice, embedding risk culture, and ensuring compliance with group policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide operational risk advisory services, educate business line managers on risk tools, and embed ownership of risk management.
• Assist in coordinating operational risk activities, reporting, and budgeting, and represent the Head of Operational and Resilience Risk in executive meetings.
• Analyze trends, assess new procedures, and advise on fraud, information security, and operational loss control.
• Maintain stakeholder relationships, respond to regulatory consultations, and monitor adherence to risk frameworks.

Required profile

• Graduate degree in Risk, Finance or related field; certification in risk management preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of operational risk experience, with at least 2 years in banking.
• Strong understanding of Absa operational and resilience risk policies and African region risk strategy.

Required skills

• Operational risk management frameworks and tools (ORRMF, ORMS).
• Data analytics and risk reporting.
• Fraud prevention and information security knowledge.
